Introduction
The NAUI “Intro to Tech” offers a Fundamental approach to refining and mastering the fundamental skills such as buoyancy, Finning technique/propulsion methods, improving diver trim, diver communication, dive equipment streamlining, horizontal out of air sharing using long hose and more. Divers will be introduced to a safer, more versatile and beneficial equipment configuration (NTEC/Hogarthian/DIR).
Who this class is designed for?
This course is designed to give the open water or advanced diver an opportunity to improve their skills, knowledge and equipment configuration, thereby increasing their safety and efficiency. Course is also intended to prepare the advanced diver for the rigors of technical diver training.
Qualifications of Graduates
Graduates are considered competent to enter into a NAUI Technical course as long as all other prerequisites are met. Course gives the open water recreational divers the ability to increase their confidence and skills while remaining within no-decompression limits and by utilizing streamlined and efficient equipment configurations, divers will have the freedom to improve their skills. These divers will be more skilled, aware and responsible. Improving non-technical skills and techniques and building diver confidence are the goals of the course.
Pre-requisites
Course Details
We'll be focusing on proper buoyancy trim, using more efficient kicking techniques (you'll be turning in circles, swimming forward and backwards, all without disturbing the bottom), equipment configuration, emergency procedures, and team diving.
Academics
We’ll spend 5 hours in the classroom discussing NAUI Reduced Gradient Bubble Model theory and tables, physics, physiology, and medical aspects as applied to planned decompression diving, with a special emphasis on bubble formation mechanisms, a review of inert gas perfusion and diffusion, equivalent narcosis depth (END), maximum operating depth (MOD), advantages of oxygen enriched mixes for decompression, and oxygen toxicity. Dive planning considerations will include depth, time, gas mixes, required gas quantities, simulated decompression, and contingencies. We’ll also spend time discussing the NAUI NTEC equipment configuration / Hogarthian / DIR.
Pool Work
Pool work will focus on maintaining proper buoyancy and trim. You'll be introduced to the modified frog kick, modified flutter, helicopter turns, and everyone's favorite - the backwards kick. Other skills include valve shut-downs, gas sharing with long hose, and spool & lift bag deployment.
Open Water Dives
Here’s where we put everything together. We’ll conduct (at least) four dives, covering S-drills, buoyancy checks, propulsion techniques, out of gas drills, simulated oxygen toxicity rescue, simulate swimming through a restriction while sharing gas, and lift bag deployment with simulated deco. Proper buoyancy & trim will be expected at all times. All our classes are videotaped for educational review, as we believe this is invaluable for students to visually focus on their individual in-water skills, situational awareness, communication, and team diving. Learning to self evaluate is an important aspect of any class, and video is one of the most important tools we have for instruction.
Equipment Specifications
NTEC/Hogarthian/DIR equipment configuration is designed to be simple, efficient, and consistent. To get the most from your class it is required that you take the course in a complete NTEC style system. To better assist you in preparing for class, we have listed below the "required" equipment lists for the class. Some equipment is available for rental, please inquire. NTEC/Hogarthian/DIR gear equipment configuration is designed to be simple, balanced, efficient and consistent. All students are required to complete the course in a NTEC/Hogarthian/DIR gear configuration.
Prior to the commencement of class, students should consult with a us to verify equipment requirements. It is better for the student to learn while using his or her own equipment. However, students should exercise caution before purchasing new equipment to avoid acquiring substandard equipment. Please contact us prior to making any purchases. Alternatives we have equipment which is available for rental.

Introduction
The Technical Diver part 1 (NAUI Helitrox) class prepares divers for deeper diving using dynamic planning, proper breathing mixtures and correct ascent procedures. This class focuses on amplifying the skills learned in the NAUI Intro to Tech class. These skills include problem identification and resolution, and the evolution of the individual diver into a team diver. By experiencing progressively more and more challenging scenarios underwater, the diver learns the skills necessary in executing a safe, deeper dive. When combined with Technical Diver part 2 (NAUI Decompression Procedures), it provides the solid basis of critical skills for the Technical Diver - A combination of NAUI Helitrox and NAUI Decompression procedures. Our Technical Diver course combines the NAUI Technical EANx Course, NAUI Decompression Diver Course, and NAUI Helitrox Course into a single class that trains divers to explore longer and deeper with less narcosis.
Who this class is designed for?
Tired of diving the same old reef? Curious about what treasures lie just a little deeper? Want to explore that 45m/150ft deep wreck a little longer, without the mind-numbing narcosis? If you answered yes to any of those questions (and have met the prerequisites), then this class is most definitely for you.
Qualifications of Graduates
Graduates of this course will have the knowledge and skills to plan and execute technical dives to 45m/150ft utilizing hyperoxic helium based bottom mixtures and 100% Oxygen for decompression. This is a deep diving course and students must be prepared for the potential dangers associated with decompression diving.
